How To Screen Print: Changing Ink Colors On Press Tips

$

0

This tutorial screenprinting video was inspired during the shooting of the last one. Have you ever taken an old screen out to use with white ink and find your ink being contaminated form the last ink color used on that screen? Do you wonder about the easiest way to clean ink off the screen on press for in print run color changes? At some point these questions will arise in your screen printing endeavors so here is a quick tips video, that is not so quick, that will help you with just these problems. So follow along as I share with you my methodology of cleaning screens for usage later and cleaning inks off screen while working on press.

This is another educational screenprinting video by Catspit Productions, LLC. Here we take another look at cleaning up ink off of your screen printing screens. But in this edition we look at it from the perspective of an on press ink change and we also consider cleaning screens well for the next use with white ink. Recently we had used a screen that had previously been cleaned of red ink. But we didn’t clean it well and when it was used with white ink on it the next time I printed; the red began to contaminate the white. In this video we look at this and we discuss how to prevent it. How do you clean a screen on press for an ink change? This is answered in the video. How do you clean a screen of ink so that the next time you use white ink it will be clean? Well we look at that too. This video is an extension of previous ink cleaning videos and will fill in some missing pieces for all of you who are new to the process.

How To Screen Print: Creamy, Easy Black Plastisol Textile Ink

$

Check out our latest screenprinting video on YouTube. This one is about the new Catspit tested and approved black ink from CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com online. I wouldn’t normally make a video about black ink but since I am selling this plastisol textile ink I figured it was appropriate. So here is a video in which we take a look and do a test print. You’ll see it’s an easy, smooth ink to print with and not only that it’s inexpensive. So happy Monday to you all and maybe you can make it go faster by watching this demonstration video of a new Catspit product.

In the latest educational screen printing video we take a look at the new Catspit tested and approved black plastisol ink for printing tee shirts and other garments. Black inks and other dark inks are relatively easy to work with since they tend to be on the thinner side and the pigmentation is very strong. So when we think of doing videos about ink we don’t normally demo these darker inks. But it’s a good idea to know what a decent ink looks like and how it prints. If you don’t know what you should be using then it is hard to tell if the products out there will perform well until you try them. This is a rather simple demonstration video in which we print some of the black ink and take a close up look. Nothing fancy or exciting but a good video to watch in order to learn about plastisol textile screenprinting inks. In this video you will get to see the consistency of the ink and you’ll get a look at how easy it is to print with.

Hello everyone, here is a remade and updated video about squeegee. I had a question or two recently that led me to make this new video about a topic I have covered before. I hope this video and the links in the video description will help tie the information all together for you. So I collected the squeegee articles and videos together with the links. Now you can watch this video and get a quick overview. Then if you want to know more about squeegees you can check out the video description for links to more information about squeegees and screen printing. I hope you all enjoy!

In this screen printing tutorial video we take another look at squeegee in an attempt to tie it all together in this remade and updated video. We wanted to put durometer and squeegee size in another video together in an easy way to understand instead of our older perhaps more difficult to follow videos about squeegees. We also wanted to collect very cool articles from the main Catspit website and put the links together here with the others for choosing your squeegee. Here are links to all things squeegee:

1-Color-Bench-PressHappy Halloween 2013! This year Catspit Productions is celebrating the spooky Halloween season with yet another screen printing startup kit give away contest. Yup, I told you at the beginning of the year we’d be doing another bench press contest so I figured this time we could do a little something special for All Hallows Eve. The kit will be a Catspit Alley Cat press with screens, chemicals, emulsions, aerosols, squeegee, inks, basic exposure unit and more. I’ll make an official announcement video next week. Here are the details so you can begin to think about participating.

Technically we are not allowed to use the functionality of YouTube to determine a winner for any contest held on YouTube. This will be the last contest we hold on YouTube due to complicated legal issues that only a big corporation with money can pay to address. Please leave a comment if you like the video entry. The winner will be handpicked by Jonathan based on originality and comment activity. If Jonathan likes your video and finds it to be creative and original and the viewers like your video in the commenting then you win. The most original and most well received video entry will win the kit. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Contestants are required to dress up in a costume of their choice and say one sentence in character to the camera on a video you will then upload to YouTube and post as a video response to the Catspit contest video. The videos will be ripped and re-uploaded to the Catspit channel so that our viewers may comment on them. The in character costumed person who gets the most comments, wins. The contest will begin September 26th and conclude on Halloween October 31st when I will upload the winner video announcement. You may submit costume videos up to the 30th of October if you like but sooner is better in order to win.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3wXVcOnnXQ

Rules:

1) If you already have won a startup kit from Catspit Productions you are not eligible to win but you may participate if you wish. You must be 18 or older to paricipate.

2) You must upload your video of yourself in a Halloween costume to YouTube and send it to me. The announcement video will be uploaded September 26th.

3) You must speak one sentence in the character of your costume to the camera for the video response. You can say anything you like but please keep it rated PG to R and no foul language please.

4) By participating in this contest you are giving Catspit Productions, LLC permission and/or rights to download your video and re-upload it as a Catspit Productions channel video. This also gives us permission to run Google ads on the videos posted to the Catspit channel. The Catspit intro and outro will be added to your video but the content of the video will remain untouched. Credits and links of your choice will be given in the video description.

5) Catspit Productions reserves the right to exclude any submission we deem inappropriate for the contest. The prize has no cash value and may only be received as the physical screenprinting kit. Catspit Productions accepts no liabilities in relation to this contest in any way, shape or form. This is an exercise of free speech and the prize is considered a gift, not a right. Catspit Productions reserves the right to make changes to the prize kit content at any time without notice to contestants. This is a contest given without warranties or liabilities to you in any possible and/or conceivable way.

6) Catspit Productions reserves the right to change any of the above rules or contest parameters at any time without notice to contestants.

7) This contest is available only to contestants within the continental United Sates. The prize will not be exported in any way. All contestants must be residents of the continental portion of the United States of America. No exceptions. This excludes Hawaii, Alaska, and all US provinces.

Thanks to everyone who participates and remember, if you don’t submit a video you can’t win. It could be a small contest with only 3 entries, who knows so go ahead and give it a shot. If someone wins with 2 thumbs up, so be it. You have nothing to lose but a little time.

Your entries must comply with YouTube:

I was able to get this week’s video edited and uploaded to YouTube. This is a very fun, casual and entertaining demo from the Saati booth at ISS Long Beach 2014. Check out some great products from Saati and see the video description for my Saati picks on the Catspit ecommerce site.

I have been very busy in the shop and office the past few weeks. But I was finally able to print some Catspit Secret Society tee shirts yesterday and they are now available on the Catspit ecommerce site. Show your support for Catspit and my efforts to teach the world screenprinting. I need to get a couple of models to make better images for the website ;) Know any pretty people in Phoenix?

http://catspitscreenprintsupply.com/tee-shirts/

In this educational screen printing video we take a trip over to the ISS trade show in Long Beach, 2014. The trade show is a great place to learn about screen print technologies, machinery, supplies and innovations for the textile and graphic industry. Saati is awesome for washout booth demos at the show. They always have a working washout booth with drain, water and pressure washer. Here they do many demos during the show hours for visitors to see how their chemicals work. These demos are casual and fun. And they often have free samples of the products they are showing us in their booth. In this video we take a look at a few chemicals such as ER2 and IR8. We also take a look at HR6 which is a very user friendly haze remover. Take a moment and visit with one of the guys form Saati as we take a closer look at this high tech screen printing equipment. Then click the links below to see our recommended Saati products for plastisol inks and textile screen printers.

This is a customer inspired video about the CBX 20×24 table top exposure unit made by RANAR and offered by Catspit Productions. This video features the non-vacuum exposure unit in a comparison video about the differences between vacuum tops and non-vacuum units. It’s an awesome educational video if I don’t say so myself ;) If you’re looking to buy a new exposure unit and you’re debating on the two types of units then you should probably watch this video.

This is a video made especially for a customer who was a little skeptical about our RANAR CBX 20×24 table top exposure unit. It turns out after some usage he loves the unit. But the information contained in the video is a valuable comparison of vacuum exposure units versus non vacuum table top exposure units. Here you will learn about the differences between the two units and what it means to your screen making process. Can you make halftones with an industrial black lamp fluorescent vacuum exposure unit? I answer that. Can you make halftones with an industrial black lamp fluorescent table top exposure unit? I answer that too. If you’re in the beginning stages of screenprinting and trying to decide which type of exposure unit is best for you then this video is a must see. Come along for the ride as I explain the differences between these machines and watch as I make a screen with the table top unit.

How To Screen Print Tee Shirts: Mini Infrared Belt Dryer Review

$

This is my latest screenprinting video as requested. Take a close up look at the Ranar Scamp DX200 mini infrared belt dryer. I have some of the RANAR screenprinting equipment here in Phoenix to offer locally so I figured we could certainly take a look at some of the goodies I have to offer.

This is a video made especially for a customer who asked about this product. Here we take a short but close up look at the RANAR Scamp DX200 infrared belt oven for screenprinting tee shirts. This belt dryer is recommended for plastisol ink although it can be used to heat set dry water based inks as well. The compact configuration of this unit makes it especially good for small shops or work at home screen printers. The infrared belt dryer is 120v and 17 amps which will run on most household outlets that are on 20 amp breakers. Your standard kitchen and garage electrical outlets are likely to be 20 amp outlets. But always check with your electrician for details. This unit has the adaptability of doing hats and other odd printable products that need heat setting or curing. If you’re just starting out and thinking of using a flash cure to do the final cure with your plastisol printed shirts or if you are thinking of a smaller operation then this is a great belt oven to consider. Remember Catspit Productions offers free shipping on major equipment purchases anywhere in the continental US.

Screenprinting: How To Register Multi Color Jobs NO Micro Reg

$

Here’s the screenprinting educational video I promised you all yesterday. I hope it lives up to all your expectations that I may have inspired with the announcement of this video… LOL. This is one of those topics that is difficult to teach without hands on instruction and some personal experience. In this video I give my best efforts in sharing my experiences with presses that do not have micro registration. I hope this helps you all more than I think it might ;)

This screenprinting educational video has been requested many times in the past. This is one of those topics that is not easy to teach and may be more a matter of experience than anything. Many people seem to have issues when registering multi-color print jobs on presses that do not have micro registration. But It is not necessarily the fault of the printer in that the build of the press may be at fault. Many bench presses are built in such a way that the screen moves when you tighten the clamps. Why does that happen? How does that affect my registration and how do you prevent it? These are not easy questions to answer in this instance but there are a few things that I can share with you that may help make it easier for you to register your multi-color screen print jobs on press when you have no micro registration. So follow me along as I share my personal experiences with printing on presses without micro registration.

Here we go as requested and as promised. MacDermid Autotype CPS color coded chemical buckets and brush sets. It took me a while to get this done. Also the product is one the ecommerce website but I have to figure the shipping details before it will be ready for click and ship. But you can call me if you would like more information on these. Anyway this video gives you a great rundown on this product with details of how it might be used in shop.

This is another screenprinting educational video that was planned some time ago. Finally after a little urging from one of our customers I have made the video looking at the MacDermid Autotype CPS color coded chemical bucket and brush set. In this fun video I take a close look at this set of heavy duty long lasting brushes and their color matched buckets. You will learn what the buckets are for in the screen making process and how to best use them. We also compare this chemical application system to spray bottles briefly in the washout booth. See the best way to apply chemicals with these awesome chemical resistant brushes. These industrial brushes will last a lifetime when used and cared for properly. The buckets have been tested along with the brushes in the Catspit shop for over 2 years and they are still working like new. So take a moment with me as I entertain and educate you on the latest screenprinting product brought to you by Catspit Productions, LLC and MacDermid Autotype. Thanks to MacDermid Autotype for making it possible to bring their products direct to you.

Screenprinting Tee Shirts: How To Change MDF Pallet Brackets

$
0
0

I was about to do a video about printing tote bags and I realized I had to change a few brackets around on my MDF pallets. I had some minor water damage to some of the wooden MDF pallets and they needed to be replaced. I thought this might make a good tutorial video for beginners and those of us who are less mechanically inclined. So here’s a cool how to video about changing your wooden or MDF pallet boards for your manual textile rotary screen printing press. You’ll get a summary of how to attach brackets.

In this tutorial screenprinting video you’ll get to take a quick look at how to change MDF pallet boards for rotary textile screenprinting presses. Many manual t-shirt presses come with wooden or MDF pallets which have metal brackets screwed onto the bottom. The bracket then slides onto the pallet arm of course and it sometimes becomes necessary to change the pallet. Over time pallets may become warped or damaged and if particle board like MDF gets wet it also will suffer damage. Therefore we need to replace the wood pallet material periodically. This video will show you the very basics on how to do this with some considerations to think about especially if you’re making your own pallet out of wood or materials from a home improvement store. This is a summary video showing the replacement of pallet brackets and explaining the differences between small brackets and larger ones in relation to garments to be printed. If you need to replace you stock pallets or if you’re making your own then this video might be helpful to you. At the very least it will be amusing perhaps.

Follow along as I explain the apparatus and how it works with mini screens to print foam trucker hats. Enjoy some cool music from our friends at Predecessor! Stay tuned for a music video clip from the band at the end of this video. Enjoy!

Screenprinting Tee Shirts: High Opacity Low Bleed White Ink

Hey everyone! I have a very cool announcement to make along with the color ink explosion we had this week for our plastisol ink lineup. Finally my go to white ink is back on the Catspit venue. Triangle Sta Ture 1701 Phoenix White is a great ink I love to use. Check out this vintage video I made back in 2012 when I first featured this ink with another vendor. I reedited it so as not to mention those details. I have been using this white ink since then. I’ll do a new video on this ink showing even better coverage and the expansion properties that will fill the knit more when you heat it up good ;) Stay tuned…..

Finally my favorite super opaque white ink for screenprinting tee shirts is now available again through Catspit. I showed you this ink back in 2012 and since then we have gone through a lot of change for the better. This video was actually made in 2012 but we reedited it and reloaded it so we could share this killer white ink with you right away. This is the white ink that will work with 100% cotton, 50/50 poly/cotton and 100% polyester. When used and cured properly this super opaque low bleed white plastisol ink will outperform all others. This is the only white ink we recommend for printing on dark garments without flashing and printing twice. That’s right no more long double hit flash print runs! This ink can work as an excellent fabric blocking under base or it can be used as a bright white stand-alone ink for those challenging white on black print runs. This ink is a cool white which helps it pop on dark and colored garments. You can get this ink anywhere online but when you buy it from Catspit you get a money back guarantee. If you don’t like it I’ll return your money and take the gallon back to use in my own shop ;)

Screenprinting Dark Shirts: HO, Low Bleed Poly/Cotton Badass White

Here is a late upload to YouTube. It’s the newest video about Triangle Phoenix White. This is a high-capacity, low bleed, poly cotton white plastisol ink. Have a more detailed look at this high-performance white ink. But first I have to ask you to please not laugh at my wrinkled shorts. I admit I have been without a girlfriend for a little bit now and I think I need that companionship. I don’t mean that in a chauvinistic way… LOL. But you know how it is when you have a domestic partner. They make you care more about wrinkled clothes right? So if there are any available artistic gals in Phoenix…..  LOL sorry I got distracted. Anyway check out this really cool video about this very bad ass white plastisol ink. I even show you the unusual expanding qualities this ink has. You’ll be sure to enjoy this video and you may even pick up another tip or two on how to print white ink on dark garments without flashing.

This is a follow-up video to the previous one we did about the Triangle Phoenix white. The first video about this ink was made in 2012 when we featured this product with another vendor. Today we are proud to sell this product direct. This video goes into further detail on how to print this white ink without flashing. You will learn about the famous Catspit putty print that may also be referred to as a one-hit white. Learn about the unusual expansion qualities of this ink and how it can help you in producing a more opaque print. This video will also emphasize how important your setup and equipment is to reducing the time it takes to print white plastisol inks on black or dark garments. Any halfway decent white ink can be printed without flashing when you know what you’re doing. However using a high-performance, high opacity, low bleed white ink in addition to the proper setup and tools will make your life much easier. It will also produce a superior product in the end. If you take the time to watch this video we promise you will not only learn from it but you will enjoy it. Learning how to screen print is always fun with Jonathan from Catspit Productions ;)

Learn Screen Printing: The Sahara Screen Drying Box From Saati

This is a quick video look at the Sahara dry box from Saati. I know I have shown this before but it’s so cool I want one. This is a screen drying rack that is fully enclosed and self-contained. It has heat and ventilation features with controls. This is an awesome dry box that most textile screen printers might not necessarily need but it is fun to look at. This type of dry box would be critical for screen making where we need absolute exactitude and control over the screen and drying emulsion. You might find this type of equipment in industrial graphic printing. In some cases we work in clean room situations and actually measure the stencil for accuracy with special tools. If you’re interested in any Saati products please give me a call. I’m an authorized dealer for Saati and I can help you out with any purchases. I hope you enjoy this peek at such technical and sophisticated screenprinting equipment. http://catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
