ISS Screen Printing Show: What’s New From RhinoTech

Here is another ISS screen printing show video from the RhinoTech booth. I had a lot of fun working the booth with RhinoTech and we had many Catspit visitors stop by their booth to say hello. I gave away a lot of free Catspit Secret Society Logo shirts and I took a few photos with some of our video viewers. But this video is especially cool because we get to learn about a new digital laser transfer paper that I want to use to make some Catspit mugs. Just keep reading to learn more and have a look see at the video perhaps ;)

The video is titled, “ISS Screen Printing Show: What’s New From RhinoTech.” This tutorial screen printing video is an introduction and overview of the RhinoTech Company. The video was made at ISS Long Beach, 2013 in the RhinoTech booth. Here we get to speak directly with Greg Markus, one of the owners of RhinoTech, about where RhinoTech has come from and where they are going with their product line. They offer a lot of screen making equipment including filtration, recirculating, and total reclaiming systems. But as we learn in this video that is not all they have to offer. You’ll learn about their newest digital heat transfer products that are so versatile in their application that you can buy substrates at Wal-Mart or Target. That’s right! Find out about their latest digital laser transfer paper that can be pressed to multiple substrates other than tee shirts. You can make plaques, mugs, plates, glass, metal, and you can even press wood with your customized logo. This is a great video to watch if you want to learn more about the great products from RhinoTech.

ISS Screen Printing Show: Heavy Duty Pressure Washer

$

Here is another ISS screen printing show video from the RhinoTech booth. In this video we take a look at the heavy duty pressure washer from RhinoTech. This is the RSA 1500A pressure washer for screen printing. I have to say I’ll be much happier having one of these in the shop instead of one of the home owners units from home improvement stores. I can remember the last 2 that I bought. The first of the two broke at the same time I needed to reclaim screens. I had jobs to print so I was forced to go out right away and buy a new one. Then that very unit about 6 months later also broke. The standard hose side which ran household pressure water for washing out screens burst and flooded the shop. I forgot to turn off the water valve the night before. But the hose should have never failed. Well, all that is over now that I have this new heavy duty pressure washer from RhinoTech.

The video is called, “ISS Screen Printing Show: Heavy Duty Pressure Washer.” This tutorial screen printing video is an overview RSA 1500A Pressure washer from RhinoTech. This is a pressure washer designed for heavy usage such as in screen printing. By now if you have been printing for any amount of time you may well know that home owner style pressure washers from home improvement stores are no match for screen printing chores. They may last up to a year or two if you’re lucky but in the end those units are made to wear out and break. It’s the corporate way of ensuring the corporations fiscal health. And in fact many of those name brand units you see discounted at hardware stores are actually specially made for the store. The giant home improvement company will tell the manufacturer what retail price they want to be at and the maker down engineers the unit to match the price. What you get is an item that is nowhere near as good as the original product. You can either keep buying new pressure washers or buy just one. Like this 1450 psi, 110v, 18 amp screen printing pressure washer with safety GFCI plug. Watch the video to learn more about this excellent unit.

Please remember you can get the RhinoTech products on the Print Supplies page of the Catspit website. Use the Catspit promo code to enjoy 5% off list pricing on supplies. Thanks for your support!

ISS Screenprinting Trade Show: New Scoop Coater & Chemical Brushes

This is a new ISS 2013 trade show video from the MacDermid Autotype booth. In this video we learn about their cool specially designed scoop coater as well as their brush and bucket chemical system for screen making. The trade show videos are a lot of fun to make and they allow me some time to regroup and prepare for new screen printing videos produced in shop. That 1 color halftone video everyone is asking for is on deck. As soon as we finish up the artwork I’ll begin shooting video. This is the first video for which I created a print job to film. The topic matter is relevant so I suppose I had a creative drive to do this one ;) Stay tuned and make sure to subscribe to the Catspit YouTube channel so you don’t miss that awesome video!

This killer screenprinting video is called, “ISS Screenprinting Trade Show: New Scoop Coater & Chemical Brushes.” This is another educational screen printing video from ISS Long Beach 2013. The trade shows are a lot of fun to visit and often times you get to see very cool new products and services that can help you grow your screenprinting business. In this short tutorial video we take a quick look at the MacDermid Autotype booth. As many of you know MacDermid Autotype is a sponsor of the educational program from Catspit Productions, LLC. In this video we are proud to share with you 2 very cool new products from MacDermid. You’ll get to see their specially designed scoop coater and their chemical brush system. Eventually we hope to do feature videos on these products and perhaps do a giveaway with them as well. The scoop coater is an extra deep coater with an extended trough for the emulsion. With this unit you can coat at least a dozen screens before you’ll have to reload with emulsion. The bucket and brush chemical system is an awesome product designed for use in the washout booth. These are a series of color coded buckets and brushes for your screen making chemicals. Emulsion remover, ink wash, haze removers and mesh prep my all be stored in these buckets with the funnel lids. Then the brushes and buckets are easily utilized in the washout booth for screen making purposes.

Screen Printing ISS Trade Show: Thermal Film Positive Printer

$

This is a short and sweet video about a thermal printer for making film positives for screen printing tee shirts. This is a more expensive solution for film output but one that is practical for a higher volume shop that still prefers to use film to make screens. Hopefully we will get to make arrangements with Exile Technologies to bring this into the shop so I can make some film output videos with it. I have plans to do some artwork videos with inkjet and thermal film output. I’m just trying to make sure I don’t get into trouble with YouTube by using Illustrator in video. I’m a partner so I have to be wary of things like that even though it appears everyone is doing it ;)

The video is called, “Screen Printing ISS Trade Show: Thermal Film Positive Printer.” This is an ISS show video from Long Beach 2013. In this short video I introduce you to the thermal printer from Exile Technologies. Everyone knows we can make film positives with inkjet printers, laser printers, and image setters but many are unaware of a very cool solution we feel is between inkjet film positives and image setters. Now it is true that inkjet printers will have a much higher resolution than a thermal printer but 600 DPI is plenty sufficient for most spot colors and halftones for screen printing. So it may be argued and it is true that inkjet printers can print a higher resolution but that is because most inkjet printers are designed to print photographs for consumers and professional photographers alike. Therefore I can say with experience that the film positives output from the thermal printer is certainly at a high enough resolution for screenprinting. There are few and rare circumstances that might require a higher resolution in printing film positives for printing tee shirts. At the moment none come to mind but the superior quality of the thermal film positives compared to inkjet is in my opinion a better option. Unfortunately it is also a more expensive option. Stay tuned for more videos on this subject in the future.

Screen Printing: Heavy Duty Pressure Washer From RhinoTech

I was accused of selling out! Watch this video and hear what I have to say about that. It’s a quick introduction to my new pressure washer from RhinoTech. This is the pressure washer I introduced in the trade show video at ISS in Long Beach. In this video I explain who I recommend this product for and why. I also share with you my home owners picks from Amazon.com which I have affiliate links for on my website. It’s another fun and informative video with your screenprinting buddy, Jonathan.

The new video is called, “Screen Printing: Heavy Duty Pressure Washer From RhinoTech.” This is another great introduction product review on the RS1500 heavy duty pressure washer from RhinoTech. This unit was featured in a previous trade show video and now it is in the Catspit shop for a good rundown and review. In this video Jonathan explains who this product is meant for and clarifies some confusion regarding his promotion of this particular unit. Some have accused us of selling out and promoting very expensive equipment to hobbyists and casual screen printers working from home. That is not the case. Hear what Jonathan has to say about it in this video and learn why he suggests this pressure washer and to whom. You’ll also get some close up views of the pressure washer and its components as Jonathan describes the build to you. If you’re a commercial screen printer who uses their pressure washer daily and you’re tired of buying homeowner units only to replace them then watch this video. You’ll be very happy you did.

Heavy Duty Pressure Washer For Screen Printing Tee Shirts

Here it is guys and gals! The RhinoTech HD pressure washer review video for your viewing pleasure. I was finally able to make this video after figuring out where to put the unit in my shop. I still have to get a table to raise the unit up to waist level for easy access to the power switch but this pressure washer is awesome. I don’t think I’ll ever have to buy another. Ever. If you’re in the market for a heavy duty pressure washer or you need to research them to find out what is best for your needs then this is a perfect video to watch.

The new tutorial video is called, “Heavy Duty Pressure Washer For Screen Printing Tee Shirts.” This is the long awaited product review video for the RhinoSpray Model 1500A Heavy Duty Pressure Washer. The unit is a 1450 PSI pressure washer with adjustable pressure and adjustable spray gun nozzle. With this unit you can calibrate your pressure using a pressure knob on the top of the unit. You can use that to raise or lower the water pressure accordingly to the job you are working on. It also has a spray nozzle on the gun that can be turned form pin point to wide fan for versatility in the washout booth. Use the pinpoint for trouble areas and the wide fan for easily reclaimable screens by taking them out in 2 or 3 passes. In this video we demonstrate the unit working in the washout booth. You’ll get to see this unit work as we actually reclaim a screen and test out the spray nozzle. This unit is very quiet compared to other “home owner’s” units. But this pressure washer does not have an auto off function since that would inevitably break. Therefore you need to place this unit where you can reach the power switch. Learn Silk Screenprinting: Forum Contributor Shout Out!

Here it is boys and girls. As promised a new screen printing video for your viewing pleasure. This is a fun video that may help you out when washing out your screens. Many people do not realize what the problem is when they washout a screen… and try to print with it only to see the ink being blocked even though the screen mesh looks clear. Has this happened to you? Have you ever washed out a screen only to find it is clogged? Did the screen look clean and clear with open mesh in the stencil areas? If so then this video will definitely help you out. I’ll say it again, if you have ever experienced a clogged screen after washing out the stencil this video is a must see!

The new video is called, “Learn Silk Screenprinting: Forum Contributor Shout Out!” In this video you will learn about scum and film that may be left behind after washing out your stencil in the washout booth. Most often this filming or scum that is left in the screen mesh after washout is clear but it will clog the mesh and prevent your inks form printing well. This is actually underexposed emulsion and it is common on the inkwell side of screens especially with industrial fluorescent exposure units. There are two easy ways to deal with this problem and neither of them involves newsprint. Never place newsprint on wet emulsion. If it is very wet or slightly underexposed it will stick and create a mess. In this educational screenprinting video Jonathan will show you the two best ways to clear water out of the stencil mesh openings. One method we use in the Catspit shop, the other we demonstrate for your learning benefit. Remember, Catspit Productions offers screen printing supplies and equipment sales so please contact us for assistance. Screen Printing Shirts Without Emulsion, Chemicals or Film Positives!

Hey there! A year or 2 later I made a follow up video to the RhinoTech Dry Stencil System product review. LOL… I know it took forever to get back to this but that’s because we already have a resident expert on the product. So this is a fun video in which I print with the dry stencil system using plastisol ink. I think this stuff is pretty cool and it is a great tool for a commercial shop to do one offs. And it’s perfect for beginners who may not have anywhere to work but in their home. Check it out but don’t forget to hit Leadfoot up on the Catspit forum if you want to ask more detailed questions ;)

This is a long overdue follow up video to the RhinoTech Dry Stencil System videos. Since we are commercial screen printers here at Catspit Productions we don’t use this type of product in production and we had a forum member do an extensive thread on this product so we never got to make a video printing with the dry stencil system. Until now. In this video we take a second look at the RhinoTech dry stencil system and we then proceed to screen print with the same screen we made almost 2 years ago. That’s right, the very same screen I made in the product review video was hanging around the shop all his time since I knew I wanted to make this video with it sooner or later. Well here it is and I have to say I was impressed with the print quality and the ease of use once you get the details figured out. I can safely say with my limited experience in working with this product and the forum threads that this product is perfect for one offs in commercial shops and it’s well suited for the home printer who may not have a shop environment to work in.

You can find RhinoTech’s Dry Stencil System on the Print Supplies page of the Catspit website. Use the Catspit discount code to get a 5% discount!

A personal note from Jonathan:

Again, I am very proud to announce the official Catspit Productions ecommerce site where your purchase of screenprinting equipment and supplies helps me continue to help all of you. Shooting, editing and uploading these videos with all of the associated posts on social networking sites take a tremendous amount of time. Answering comments on YouTube and through emails or the Catspit Forum takes even more time. Not to mention Facebook and Twitter questions. Maintenance of the forum, websites and social networking platforms for Catspit costs money. The added business paper work associated with my educational efforts online also costs money to process. Therefore I need your support to keep doing this at the rate we are currently moving today.

Screen Printing T-Shirts: Can A Flash Unit Cure Plastisol Inks?

$

First off I have to say I didn’t get my shirts in time to print any for the show this year. I’ll have to rely on what RANAR has since I will have a Catspit screen set up on press in the RANAR booth at NBM Long Beach this week. I was going t…o have preprinted shirts to hand out but personal family issues and workloads prevented me from completing that task. So you’ll all have to settle for buttons, stickers and pens. But you could get a chance to print your own Catspit tee with me and take it home ;) Anyway, here is another commonly asked question about screen printing tee shirts and equipment. Find out what I have to say about it.

This is another very cool educational video about screen printing tee shirts by Catspit Productions, LLC. Here I discuss and look into a very common question people ask about screenprinting especially when staring out. When working with plastisol textile inks you need to cure the ink with heat. The ink needs to reach about 330 degrees F for up to a minute depending on the printed ink volume. In this tutorial video we look at the factors that may affect your flash cure and why using it for commercial production may not be the best idea. This video should show you some of the many reasons we suggest a belt dryer for commercial production. So come along on yet another fantastic voyage into the wonderful world of textile screen printing. We are sure you’ll enjoy this entertaining and informative instructional video.

Screen Printing Trade Show: Behind The Scenes With Catspit

Here we go with another behind the scenes screen printing trade show video. Come along as I go to the Long Beach Convention Center to work the 2013 NBM Printwear show. This is actually a small show and it includes awards, engraving, and sign exhibitions with a small screen printing presence.

They actually squish all the screen printers to one side of the exhibit hall instead of mixing everyone together to cross expose attendees to both sides of the industry. Unless you are a big player then you can use your weight to push NBM around and have a screen printing booth near the front among the sign and award booths. I wonder who did that ;)

Screen Printing Exposure Units: 20×24 Table Top Black Lamp

$

Just a quick video featuring some exposure units at the RANAR booth at the NBM show in Long Beach California. I figured I would feature some equipment this year since this show is so small and mostly filled with awards and sign vendors. The…re wasn’t much screen printing going on for me to make videos from and the NBM show is very protective in what they will allow me to video. So I could only make videos in the RANAR booth. I thought trade shows were about networking and exposure but you know Corporate America today.

This is another screen printing trade show video in which we take a quick look at an exposure unit that stands alone on the floor with legs. This is a rather large industrial black lamp exposure unit but for those of you who are just starting out we have a very similar unit that is a table top version. This is basically the same industrial fluorescent black lamp exposure unit except it has been scaled down to sit on a table top. Here is a cool new video that follows a green Catspit bench press through the build for some time. Get a close look at the heavy duty construction of these superior bench presses from RANAR and Catspit Productions. I love this bench press series. The build is so simple yet genius in ways. Simple often does mean more complex but in this case simple means simple. But that’s what makes these bench presses so Catspit cool.

This is another educational screen printing video by Catspit Productions, LLC. In this entertainment version we take a look at the making of a Catspit green 1 color bench top silk screening press. As you can easily see this press is built heavily and made to last a lifetime. The unique RANAR compression spring lift arm system and the solid American steel build along with primo welds makes this 1 color table top screenprinting press a no brainer. Competitively priced and built better. This is the type of bench press you will always have and use. Are you ready to move up to a multi-color floor press? No problem. You can still use this solid 1 color, 1 station bench press for other things in the shop like branding tags to get more business, pocket prints, 1 color novelty shirts and even one offs with paper stencils or other quick stencil making systems. The bottom line is this bench press will outlast others on the market today for the same price. You could even bequeath this press to your loved ones it will last so long ;) Take a moment and enjoy this short video about printing textiles. Then you can watch our other screen printing tutorial videos which feature the RANAR equipment we use and sell.

Here’s a quick video about a new little floor press for screen printing tee shirts. This is RANAR’s bottom of the line entry level floor press which does not have micro registration. This is a 4 color, 4 station rotary press designed to be wicked durable and easily shippable by UPS. Take a quick walk with me through the RANAR factory and have a look at this cool little unit. Enjoy my friends and have a wonderful weekend!

This is another educational screenprinting video by Catspit Productions, LLC. Here we’ll take a very quick look at the new 4 color, 4 station manual rotary screenprinting press made by RANAR. This is a little unit that can ship UPS and has NO micro registration. It’s designed to be durable, accurate and inexpensive. The unit has what we like to call “poor man’s micro tuners” because each head has threaded bolts through the back that can be turned to tweak the screen some when the clamps are loosened. It’s made like all the other RANAR equipment and it’s built to last. Even if your business were to outgrow it we’re sure you’ll want to keep this little baby around the shop. And if you’re lucky enough to have that happen then you’ll put this press to good use and get your money’s worth plus some. So check out this quick silk screenprinting video and stay tuned until the end, you’ll get to see some very cool close up shots of this screen printing press. Now take a moment and enjoy this short video about printing textiles. Then you can watch our other screen printing tutorial videos which feature the RANAR equipment we use and sell.

How To Screen Print: Creamy Smooth Opaque Plastisol White Ink

Okay I did this video about the white ink available at CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com but now I’m not sure I gave it a fair shake. The video came out very well and the ink performed nicely as I expected but I used a rag shirt that had been washed for the test print. So the close up shot of the print I think may not really represent the ink to its fullest ability. I thought it looked fine but I think there was some fibrillation from the rag tee. But this ink does get my seal of approval especially for the money. At this pricing anyone can afford to at least try a quart.

This is another educational screenprinting video by Catspit Productions, LLC. In this edition we take a close look at the new CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com plastisol textile white ink for printing tee shirts and other garments. This is a very inexpensive screenprinting ink that is smooth and creamy. It has very good ink flow characteristics and great opacity. This plastisol screen printing ink is available at CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com and is completely tested and approved by Jonathan himself. In order for any high opacity ink to work properly please remember that squeegee durometer, mesh tension, mesh count, off contact and your flood/stroke will all be determining factors in the end result regardless of the quality of the ink. What that means is even with the highest quality, highest performing inks if your set up is not proper then your print result will not be satisfactory especially for the high price you may have paid for the HO inks. Get yourself set up right and using a proper flood and stroke will make any decent ink work even better. Unless the ink is like plaster of Paris…. LOL ;)
